Any parent who has small kids often dreads the prospects of family road trip. Actually, it can be said that the worst bit of vacation is during the family travel to and from the vacation destination.

I was like that, too. As much as I like to travel with kids, With two very young kids in tow, it is almost a guarantee that I have to move around in the car from time to time to attend to their needs, notably during feeding time. Not to mention that I have to endure their boredom and the endless utterance of this phrase, “Are we there yet ?”

Fortunately, there are ways to make the family road trip more enjoyable and stress-free.

Here is the list of things which can dramatically reduce the boredom your child is experiencing during the family car ride and saves you from having to always attending to your child’s needs while in the trip :

Get a travel tray. You can then attach the travel tray to either your child’s car seat or at the back of the front seat. This gadget will save you from having to keep on attending your child. You can use this gear to hold your child’s cup, meal and toys.

Rest stop regularly during the family trip. This way, your children will have time to stretch their legs and run around, hence quenching the boredom.

Bring lots of snacks and cold drink, and put them within your child’s reach.

Involve your children in map or road guide reading. That way, they understand where they are at a point and how close they are to the destination.

Bring paper towel, wet wipes, spare clothes outside of the suitcase, extra water for rinsing and a small trash bin.

Bring your child’s favorite books and play your child’s favorite music.

If you want to stop at a restaurant, try to find restaurant with play area.

If weather permits, consider to have a picnic rather than just eating at a restaurant with no play. I guarantee your child will be happier running around in a picnic ground.

Bring a first-aid kit and emergency medication.

If you travel with young kids, bring along a potty trainer for emergency relief.

Play word games such as: license plate games, I-spy games, and other games of that nature.

And the most important thing is to get some kinds of entertainment in the car during the family road trip. Many parents prefer to have a television installed in the car. However, if this is not your cup of tea, bring along entertaining travel toys and games, so that your children can amuse themselves with these. Nowadays, there are so many toys designed specially for family car trip. So, do yourself a favour and get a variety of these toys.

When most people think about romantic honeymoon trips, the first word that comes to mind is usually Hawaii. And while there are many other romantic locations around the world, a Hawaiian honeymoon remains one of the most popular and romantic choices.

Planning your honeymoon trip to Hawaii is easier than you would think. Most large travel agencies have agents that are devoted solely to planning trips to Hawaii. They travel to Hawaii themselves and are well versed in the best hotels and deals. You can also book your honeymoon trip yourself on one of the major online travel websites. Before booking your trip, you should do some research and consider which island (or islands) you want to visit. Each of the Hawaiian islands has its own feel, and you’ll want to determine which island you want to visit before you book your trip. Maui is the most popular island for honeymooners, but all are romantic and offer memorable honeymoon trips.

What to do on your honeymoon trip depends a lot on the personality of the couple. Some newlyweds prefer to have a honeymoon with very little to do except sit on the beach. Hawaii is known for its beaches, and they definitely live up to expectations. Makenna Beach on Maui is routinely rated one of the best beaches in the world. Hapuna Beach on the Big Island, Poipu Beach and Hanalei Bay Beach on Kauai, and Hanauma Bay Beach on Oahu are also spectacular. All of the beaches feature warm, clear water and soft sand. You can also spend time on one of Hawaii’s famed black sand beaches. Snorkeling is also very popular on all of the islands, as the water is so clear that you can see a wide variety of tropical fish and ocean life.

If you want a honeymoon trip with more adventure, there are plenty of things to do on all of the islands. On the Big Island, you can see an active volcano at Volcanoes National Park. On Kauai you can take a boat ride to see the Na Pali coast, a spectacular coast line that is only accessible by boat or foot. And on Maui you can drive down the fabled Road to Hana, stopping at waterfalls and gardens along the way. All of the islands have sightseeing tours and day trips available. And you can end the day with a sunset cruise or a luau.

Author: Teresa Kolvek
Source: isnare.com

As a working mom, I am the queen of guilt. Every morning I drop off my little girl at the day care center, where there is a caring staff she has really bonded with. She seems happy enough most days. She will reach for the teacher as soon as she sees her, and contentedly watch as I say my “Goodbye, baby, I love you!” and walk out the door. I keep my voice cheerful and my demeanor upbeat, but my heart always sinks into my shoes as the door shuts and I start on my way to work.

Some days it’s worse. The regular teacher occasionally isn’t there, and even though my daughter knows the others – in fact sees them every day – she clings to me, digging in with her knees and grabbing with her hands. I pry her off and hand her over, struggling to keep a smile on my face as she cries and screams, “Mommy, Mommy.” Oh, it’s tough. Worse, though, are business trips. I don’t have to travel very often, thank goodness, but when I do the guilt meter goes off the chart. I’ll call my husband to check in, and I’ll hear her in the background, talking and playing, and I just want to cry. I want to talk to her on the phone, but she isn’t quite old enough yet to understand the concept and would only be upset. Then I will hear reports back, like when my husband told me she woke in the middle of the night, screaming for Mommy. Apparently she was inconsolable, crying and refusing to calm down for Daddy.

I have to keep my job right now, since I’m the primary breadwinner in the household. So, we have to make the best of this. But how?

One thing that seems to help is talking with other working moms. When I’m at an out-of-town meeting, there are usually at least one or two other women there who can relate to my situation. We tell stories about what our kids are doing, share photos, and trade advice. Sometimes just talking it out with someone who understands can really help to ease your mind.

Another thing I’m doing is working with my employer to minimize the overnight trips I’m required to take. I’ll offer alternative suggestions, such as conference calls, videoconferencing, or meetings online. I keep trips as short as possible, and get direct flights whenever I can to lessen travel time. Sometimes it’s an option to combine separate trips into one: fly in, drive or fly to the second destination, and fly out. I’ll also consider bringing the family along, if the location is desirable, and turn the business trip into a vacation.

I just got back from a four-day meeting, and when I saw my daughter for the first time upon returning home, she looked different to me; changed somehow. Her hair seemed longer, which I know is impossible, and she had learned a number of new words. It was only four days, but I feel like I’ve missed so much!

While a working mom’s guilt is seemingly never-ending (well, mine anyway), there are a few things that can ease the pain a bit. And it’s all forgotten the moment I see my bunny rabbit smile and throw herself into my arms.

Author: Richard Chapo

If there were ever two words that went together, they are “holiday” and “travel”. They can be a pain in the neck during the holidays if you travel with kids.
Holiday Travel
I happen to be a big fan of the Christmas televisions shows. I happily admit that I am still a fan of the Grinch, the island of toys and, of course, Rudolf. Alas, one can’t help buy notice none of these shows make any mention of holiday travel. While we occasionally see Santa in his sleigh, he certainly isn’t sitting in a depressing airport lounge waiting for a four hour flight delay to pass.
Holidays are a great time because they give you a chance to loaf. If you’re traveling out of town to a family home, you can anticipate spending a few days of eating too much, sleeping a lot, watching football and pretending to explain gifts to a child while you are really playing with them. Everyone looks forward to these family gatherings.
Nobody looks forward to actually going through the process of traveling to family gatherings. Travel by airplane, and you have to sit in crowded airports, suffer through connecting flights, pray the weather doesn’t act up and, of course, wedge yourself into a seat made for a super model. There is also that moment of apprehension when the plane is loading and you hope not to get stuck to “drunk guy”, “gonna get sick guy”, “cute, hyperactive child” or an insurance salesman. All of these downfalls are multiplied when you travel with your kids.
Being a child is about having fun and exploring your surroundings. Sitting in an airport for 5 hours is not conducive to such things. The old Stapelton Airport in Denver used to have a giant waiting room that was painted in dark red. When the weather acted up, it was like getting a 10 hour preview of hell. As miserable as you might be with delays, your child will be ten times worse off. So, what do you do?
In this age of the gadget, there is always the video game. There problem, however, is there something disturbing about watching a child’s eyes glaze over as he digitally kills monsters, other humans or whatever happens to be on the screen. One has to wonder what society will be like in another 20 years or so when these video game experts come to the forefront.
A better solution to your child’s boredom would be to get them engrossed in something that actually helps their minds grow. Books are great, particularly the latest installment of Harry Potter which is sure to keep them engrossed for a few hours. Another option is to give the writing journals, and tell them to write down things such as their impressions of the trip, all the important things they experienced during 2005 and so on. Both of these options will keep them from being miserable as well as develop a skill other than pressing a button as fast as humanely possible.

Author: CJ Ticer

When a parent has a second child that is relatively close in age to the first, they have some important decisions to make about how they plan to get around in public places. Chances are, the older child will quickly tire of walking around, and will want a place to sit down. This poses the question of how to accommodate both children safely and easily, and the obvious solution is to consider buying a double stroller travel system. Fortunately for parents, these easy to use systems are getting better all the time, and now there are more choices than ever before.

First, the parent should consider what kind of activities they plan on taking the children to. A trip to the park or zoo is so much more enjoyable when a parent has the comfort and convenience of enough room for both children, and the generous storage that is offered beneath the double stroller travel system can easily store a diaper bag and sack lunches, along with any additional parcels quite comfortably. For the more active parent, there are models that are suitable to take along for a jog, and the children can enjoy the ride in comfort and style.

If you have ever been to a theme or amusement park, then surely you have seen how difficult it can be to try and decide which child gets to ride and which one has to walk, as well as to try to hold on to all the necessary bags and other items. By using a well-designed double stroller travel system, this is made almost effortless, and it frees up the hands of the parents for more important things. These systems offer the latest and best in safety features, which all parents can appreciate. The simplistic yet attractive design provides significant value, and many of them are quite affordable.

Many of these attractive newer models can be collapsed with one hand, which makes loading and unloading in and out of the car much easier to do. Some of the more expensive models come equipped with car seats that can be detached from the stroller. This is especially helpful if the child is sleeping so you can secure them in the care without disturbing them.

Others usually include convenient cup holders, as well as a small compartment near the handle for storing your keys, cell phone, or other small items that people prefer to keep close by. After you decide which style and model of double stroller travel system to purchase for your family, take it out for a spin and enjoy all the freedom and convenience that it has to offer!

CJ Ticer is the recent mother of twin girls and has owned a variety of baby strollers of different types. She offers help in choosing a double stroller travel system as well as the best baby care products and stroller selections online.

There is no other form of joy quite like the joy of expecting a baby. Of course, it is not the easiest of times in a woman’s life. Pregnancy can be beautiful but it can also be incredibly trying and uncomfortable. Driving in the car as either a driver or a passenger can be a challenge, especially if it is a lengthy trip that requires many hours of sitting in the car. There are a few ways that you can alleviate the discomfort so that you can take a trip and have a great time.

Author: Celia Fielding
Source: download

“You’re driving how many hours with three children?” Looks of horror or sympathy often accompany this reaction when our friends learn we are taking yet another road trip.
Sure we enjoyed flying, when there were only two of us. But soon after our first child became a full-fare airline passenger at the age of two, we realized that driving would be far less of a strain on the family budget. We purchased a minivan and our destiny was sealed: we were officially a road trip family.
With a little advanced planning, the journey can be something of an adventure rather than an ordeal. Here are eight tips for planning an extended car trip with your children:
1. Kids enjoy being a part of the planning process. Involve them in mapping the route and talk about the attractions you might visit. There are even child-friendly maps and atlases available for your child to track the journey.
2. Pack water bottles and juice boxes in a small ice chest, along with healthy (and not too messy) snacks like cheese sticks, grapes and pretzels. Packing entire meals is a good option if you are adverse to the idea of fast food, but the trade-off is you’ll probably have to squeeze a larger ice chest in your vehicle.
3. Get your toddler or preschooler accustomed to going to the restroom when everyone else does. For the very newly toilet-trained, consider bringing a potty chair that can be used in an “emergency.” And don’t forget to bring along hand sanitizer and toilet seat covers for rest stops and gas stations.
4. Let your child choose two or three favorite toys that will fit in their backpack or tote bag. Avoid toys with lots of small parts that can easily be lost. And if you’ve ever tried to remove melted crayon from upholstery, you’ll know not to leave any crayons in a hot car.
5. Provide special travel games or activity books that are new to your child just for the trip. Rather than giving them several toys at once, doling out individual toys at intervals throughout your journey will help your child appreciate each new thing and increase its enjoyment.
6. If you’re fortunate enough to have a DVD player in your vehicle, allow your child to pick out a few movies and bring along a never-before-seen movie or two in addition to the favorites. Headphones can be invaluable for those times when the driver wants to listen to a CD or audio book without being drowned out by the kids’ flicks.
7. Allow time for “stretch” breaks. This could mean a longer meal at a restaurant with a play area, a romp in the grass at a rest area, or a short walk around a scenic viewpoint. We find that our grown-up legs need to work out the wiggles just as much as our little ones’ do. If you’re driving for more than a day and staying overnight at a hotel, find one with a pool or playground for the kids to burn off energy. They’ll have something to look forward to and should sleep well that night.
8. Keep a positive attitude. At some point the kids will probably whine or get restless. An impromptu game of “I spy” or “Twenty Questions” or even a silly song can often break the monotony.
Too soon the experience will be over and life’s routines take over once again. The memory of the endless expanse of highway fades and you’ll find yourself making plans once more? for the next family road trip.

Parenting Advice for Dads – Traveling with BabiesAs a parent, you may have to travel with your baby on short and long trips. This would means taking your baby away from cozy, familiar surroundings in to new places with which your baby is not familiar. This can turn out to be a stressful experience for you as well as for your baby. While traveling with your baby, plan early. Gather as much information as possible and try to cut down the inevitable uncertainties that go with any most travel plans. These simple guidelines can make travel an enjoyable and pleasant experience for yourself and fun for your baby: * Try to plan your trip well in advance. This will minimize hassles such as arrangements for boarding, lodging, destination breaks etc. * Make a checklist of the baby items you will need to carry with you on the trip and stock up on these in advance. * Carry diapers and wipes. You may need more of these than you think. * Have a back up plan in place, in case you are not able to stick to the original arrangements you made while planning the trip. * Schedule your trip to avoid inconvenient travel timings. Your baby will be most comfortable when its routine feeding, sleeping and waking time is only minimally disturbed. * Avoid traveling to destinations where medical help may not be readily available. * Avoid long-drawn out trips. Try to stick to the most comfortable modes of travel available. * If possible, avoid traveling with your baby to places you are not familiar with.

Traveling with toddlers can be easy and fun. You can make an airplane trip or car ride fun. We have traveled with our toddler in the car and it was a nice trip. From a two hour trip to a 14 hour trip. It can be done, EASILY. First of all moms and dads, don’t be nervous about the upcoming trip. I would dread our family trips until I would made myself sick. It’s not necessary. Toddlers do get bored quickly, but trying some of my tips may just help your trip. Why not give it a try?

* One important thing to keep in mind. If your child does experience driving sickness than you should consult your physician before you travel. *

Necessary Items you will need on a car trip.

Portable DVD player and their favorite movies. VERY IMPORTANT! If you are blessed to have a vehicle where the DVD players are built in. Great for you. For those of us who are not, there are the portable players. You can even purchase a bag that straps the player to the back of the front seat. Making it easier for your toddler to see and keeps it out of your way. This is worth it’s weight in gold. Truly. Don’t forget to bring their favorite movies.Their favorite CD’s. Laurie Berkner is truly a saving grace. It’s fun to ride in the car and listen to their music and sing with them. They’ll love it.Snacks Snacks and more snacks. Need I say more than that? You know what they like. When your traveling with toddlers, have plenty of snacks. You can always stop somewhere along the road but it’s better to be prepared and have enoughCooler filled with ice and cold drinks. Our family always travels with a cooler. With or without kids, but especially with kids. Fill with juice, water and everything to meet your needs. Favorite blanket or stuffed animal etc. Anything to help them remember home and feel comforted. Books. They’ll like to look and read. Especially the sound books. Those really help. Changes of clothes. You have to be able to adapt to temperature changes, or even for those spills on clothes. Especially if traveling through different states. Keep a jacket handy. Try to put “easy take off” shoes on your child. They can be taken off easily and put on in a hurry also. When your traveling with toddlers you have to be prepared for anything.New toys. Go to the Dollar Store and buy some new toys. Purchase a bunch of cheap little dollar toys. These toys will help when your child becomes restless. The toys will help focus their attention on something other than the car. What to do with a restless Toddler in the car?

Don’t do anything until they start getting restless. We have made the mistake of putting in a movie at the start of our journey. WRONG!!. Drive for a bit first. They may fall asleep or be content for an hour or so. When traveling with toddlers, you just have to wait until they get fussy. When they do begin to get restless, then it’s movie time. Depending on their age, this will distract them for some time. I mean most toddlers don’t really watch a whole movie. Now my son will. If your child doesn’t, keep putting in the 30 minute cartoons etc. Bring out one of the new toys that you purchased. It will keep them occupied. Even allow your child to open up the package themselves. They will love it. Even if it is only for 15 minutes. It does help. Give your toddler a snack. This is an easy one. The snacks will calm them, even if for a moment. Try and give them the less messy snacks like fruit snacks first. After about two hours of driving stop at a rest stop. Let your toddler run and play. It does extend your trip, but that’s how it is when your traveling with toddlers. Don’t you agree? I personally don’t like traveling by car. A road trip with my family takes much longer. We like to stop at malls or landmarks in different cities or states. Maybe your family could try this too. If you’re not in a big hurry to get to your destination, then don’t be.Put in one of their favorite CDS. My son loves Laurie Berkner. He would listen to it over and over. The whole family joins in and sings. It’s Fun! Books. The touch and sound books are great. They can sit in their car seat and play with the book. *Extra tip* These books are great to use when you go to the store and not just for traveling with toddlers. Your toddler will sit in the shopping cart longer, playing with these books.Try giving them another new toy. Sometimes new and different toys will distract them. Just pull one new toy out at a time. This will buy you some time, even if only for 15 minutes. These traveling with toddlers tips may or may not work for everyone. They did for our family. I would like to say again that traveling by a car, even agitates some adults, myself included. So can you imagine how a toddler feels sitting in their car seat? After a few hours I’m sure they are miserable. I would prefer to travel by airplane.

Another idea is the suggestion I stated earlier. Maybe make your trip longer. Meaning, give yourself more travel time. Take an extra day to get to your destination. Stop along the way. Check out different historical sites. Try some Malls or even flea markets. We enjoy doing this as a family. Get on the internet before your trip and find different places to stop on the way. I feel it is better than doing an 8 hour trip straight through and only stopping for gas.

From my family to yours we wish you a safe trip. Remember when your traveling with toddlers, it doesn’t have to be hectic. You can look forward to your vacation, and traveling by car. More importantly, you can enjoy it even if you have a toddler.

Thanksgiving is a time to gather the family, but how to keep children interested, while in the car or sitting in airports? Have them keep a diary. Travel With Nothing beats getting your family together for Thanksgiving. It is a good time to catch up and laugh about old times. The only aggravating thing, of course, is actually travel to meet. Already there are stories of travel nightmares in the press two days before Thanksgiving. This can be especially worrisome if you have children who are easily bored. In these days of the Internet and videogames, the average child seems to have an attention span of about 30 seconds. If a glassy-eyed child killing things on a screen is not your idea of good, what alternatives do you have? Give your child a journal of writing is a great way to keep them busy without resorting to violent video games. For many children, the only way to get your attention on a Thanksgiving trip is to participate. The best way to do this is to give them a magazine and ask them to write down everything they seem. At day's end, they should be encouraged to write a journal entry about what happened during the day. It will give them an outlet for their thoughts, promote good writing skills and preserve the experiences of the family that otherwise would be forgotten over time. A good magazine for children combine a number of features. First, it should be compact. Secondly, you must have a case to protect it from rain, spills and only because children are children. Third, the journal should contain blank areas for notes, doodles, etc.. Finally, the journal should contain spaces signal to remind children to pay attention to certain things and write them. Cues should include: 1. Who has been on family holidays, 2. Places visited and why they are important, 3. The most memorable experience every day, 4. New friends made and the contact information for them, 5. That family members were present, and 6. Impressions. As time passes, a family holiday magazines remind your kids will travel in the past. Memories fade with time, even for children. By keeping a journal, children open their eyes to the things around them, improving their family reunion on Thanksgiving. I hope that will keep them busy and away from the games. Rick Chapo is with http://www.nomadjournals.com – makers of writing journals.
